Katie has a Bachelor of Applied Science in Outdoor Education and Psychology from the University of Minnesota Duluth and is a certified Wilderness First Responder with additional certifications in Adult, Child, and Infant CPR and AED. She is currently the Program Manager of Expeditions.
Katie’s Mid-Atlantic Outward Bound experience includes having instructed over 50 expeditions out of the Baltimore & Philadelphia Centers, including 5-14 day backpack, canoe, urban, and multi-element courses. In addition, she has instructed backpack expeditions on the Appalachian Trail in Maine, urban expeditions in San Francisco, California, and a 28-day Intercept canoe expedition in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in Minnesota.
During the ‘off-season’ Katie coaches ice hockey at the Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation in Philadelphia. She has also spent several winter seasons as a ski and snowboard instructor at Beaver Creak Resort in Avon, CO.
Katie has slept outside more than 365 nights of the last 4 years. With no formal culinary training or skills before working at Outward Bound, she can now cook better over a Whisperlite stove than over a gas stove at home. She is also afraid of snakes and scary movies. Especially scary movies with snakes.
