LEADERSHIP PHILADELPHIA

LEADERSHIP AWARD

LEADERSHIP Philadelphia, founded in 1959, is a non-profit hub organization that mobilizes and connects the talent of the private sector to serve the community. Each LEADERSHIP program is designed to enhance participants’ civic knowledge and enrich their leadership skills. Its Core Program engages 120 leaders at monthly gatherings over the period of one year. LEADERSHIP created the Keepers program to recognize, empower, connect, and retain Philadelphia’s most promising young leaders. Through its Connector Project, LEADERSHIP launched a research study to spark a conversation about leadership, connection, and action. LEADERSHIP recruits, informs, and trains area executives in civic affairs and board management skills and then places them on non-profit boards of directors. It helps leaders use their professional skills and personal passions to build the capacity of important organizations, thereby strengthening the community as a whole.

NANCY NAYOWITH

SERVICE AWARD

Nancy Nayowith has been employed by the School District of Philadelphia for over thirty years. She has served in the capacity of Health and Physical Education teacher, coach, Sports Chairperson, Dean of Students, and, currently, as the Director of Health, Safety and Physical Education. During her tenure as a teacher, Nancy had the opportunity to forge a strong relationship with Philadelphia Outward Bound School, watching it grow from its inception to its current capacity. Along the way, she has experienced over twenty courses with high school students and countless Outward Bound instructors. Nancy’s most impactful learning experiences have been experiential. The basic tenets and pillars of Outward Bound are deeply rooted in the way she lives her life and attacks challenges. Because of the significant role that Outward Bound has played in her life, Nancy continues to champion its programming in her new position with the School District.
