Support Our Commitment to Transform Lives

The Philadelphia Outward Bound School’s 33-year partnership with the School District of Philadelphia – and our long-term partnerships with independent schools, community organizations and nonprofits – meets young people at the edges of their comfort zones.

This is not just a walk in the park, but a well-supported learning environment that prepares young people to overcome obstacles, connect to nature and their peers, and discover their strengths and purpose. By creating challenging opportunities to hike, canoe, climb, reflect, and work together, we open a door to physical and mental well-being, self-reliance and stewardship.

By giving to POBS, you’ll be supporting the experiences that have helped over 85,000 students, “go confidently in the direction of their dreams.”

“I hoped my daughter would test her resilience and learn to push past limits. That's what happened – the positive shift in her outlook is incredible to witness.”
- Parent of student

In Philadelphia, and across the nation, less than 10% of families can afford life-changing outdoor learning experiences such as the one this 12-year old’s mother describes. Your contributions help to remove that barrier.

From single-day team courses to five-day expeditions, every program offers students the chance to stretch limits, support one another, and return changed. Whether paddling through the Delaware Water Gap, rock climbing along the Appalachian Trail or balancing on our aerial challenge course, participants find strength they didn’t know they had.

"I see Outward Bound as more than a trip. It’s a valuable learning experience and a way to connect with others. Even if you don’t notice at first, these courses change who you are."
- Diego

In a survey of 1,100 students who experience a program with POBS, 91% reported that they gained the confidence to try new things, and 86% said they felt more connected to their peers.
