In 2022, spurred by co-founder Nancy Goldenberg's passion for dragon boating, POBS formed an alumni Dragon Boat team - the POBS Dragons. The team is coached by Outward Bound alum Dave Kunz, who was a member of Team USA for the dragon boat world championship in China 2017.
After holding an open call "info session" for any who might be interested, a team was formed from a mix of alumni, staff and board members, and several practices were held on the river before the big race day in June when the Independence Dragon Boat Regatta (IDBR) was held. At that event, the POBS Dragons won their first heat but did not place in the finals.
That changed the next year at the 2023 IDBR when the POBS Dragons came in first place in their division to take home the gold! Then in 2024, the POBS Dragons earned a silver medal in the finals and earned the Educators Cup as well! (See photos below).
