HAPPY EARTH DAY 2020!

Earth Day, the annual event that encourages people to care for the world around us, turns 50 this year! Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year's events and celebrations will be virtual. Here are a few resources to help you celebrate at home.

23 WAYS TO CONNECT WITH NATURE WITHOUT LEAVING HOME

Due to COVID-19, you might be feeling disconnected from nature. Some of us are lucky to have a porch or yard to escape to, but for many, outside access just isn’t safe or possible at the moment. To help fill the wilderness-shaped void in our lives, here’s a list of resources to help us reconnect with nature without leaving the house.

THE CITY NATURE CHALLENGE

The City Nature Challenge (CNC) is an international effort for people to find and document plants and wildlife in cities across the globe. Normally, cities compete to see who can make the most observations of nature, who can find the most species, and who can engage the most people. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s City Nature Challenge is no longer a competition. Instead, the CNC wants to embrace the healing power of nature and encourages people to document their local biodiversity in whatever way they can. CELEBRATE VIRTUAL EARTH DAY WITH THE STUDENT CONSERVATION ASSOCIATION

Celebrate Earth Day’s 50th anniversary on April 22, 2020, by helping conserve the planet! Just because we have to social distance from each other, doesn’t mean have to distance ourselves from the outdoors. Join SCA in online conservation activities that will connect you to the planet and to each other. You can help conserve by creating pollinator habitats, planting a tree, reducing your use, building a garden, and taking a hike! Take action on Earth Day to build a better planet.

PHILLY EARTH WEEK

Did you know that Philadelphia was the first city to host an Earth Week? This year we are celebrating Earth Week differently but that does not mean it can’t be as impactful. The City of Philadelphia and its partners created an Earth Week guide, with over 50 virtual events! Browse events happening today and throughout the week at https://www.phillyearthday.com/!
