Learning from Experiences
Outward Bound does not provide a one-dimensional experience. A zip line is not a life-changing experience; however, a zip line event designed by some of the world’s greatest outdoor adventurers and educators can be.
Each Outward Bound program is tailored to meet educational goals. Fundamentally, our participants learn skills to help them redefine their perspectives, and through this new lens, consider their futures and their roles in the world. Compassion, integrity, confidence, and critical thinking can be learned through experience. Outward Bound provides that opportunity in this region’s most natural, wild, and historic places.

Outward Bound for Corporations and Professionals
The Philadelphia Outward Bound School offers Professional Development Programs to corporate teams both large and small. These programs are customized and designed to assist professionals by positioning the principles of high performing teams into practice so you can excel at the challenges you face in the workforce.
The objective of Outward Bound Professional Development Programs is to engage the participants with several action learning projects that focus on building effective relationships with project team members, communicating effectively, and on developing project management skills. We will choose challenges that require proactive team leadership and will use those experiences to reflect on effective leadership and leadership skills that build high performing teams.
The program will provide an opportunity to further empower leaders to operationalize their organizational vision and to continue to enhance their culture. The program will encourage them to work as a unified team toward common goals, to increase trust, and to energize the participants for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
Achieving breakthrough results comes from developing a high performing team that continues to learn together over time. Outward Bound not only taught me about the outdoors and becoming one with nature but it also taught me a lot of core values I’ll be able to use for the rest of my life. Along with learning new knots and how to preserve precious resources, I learned about integrity, outer strength, inner strength, and, most importantly, compassion. I feel like compassion is what makes human beings more human. With compassion comes love and that’s the strongest thing on Earth. Outward Bound helped me realize that.
The Outward Bound Approach
Our mission is to change lives through challenge and discovery.
The center of Outward Bound’s educational philosophy is the belief that for young people to succeed, they need character growth and skills to assume leadership roles and take positive approaches to life’s challenges. By engaging students in demanding situations, often in unfamiliar environments, Outward Bound allows students to develop as leaders while also encouraging self-reliance, physical fitness, craftsmanship, service to those in need and the environment and, above all, compassion.
All of our programs are based on this educational framework:
“There is more in us than we know. If we can be made to see it, perhaps, for the rest of our lives, we will be unwilling to settle for less.” – Outward Bound Founder, Kurt Hahn
