Discovery Fest is an annual fall festival at The Discovery Center brought to you by the Philadelphia Outward Bound School, Audubon Mid-Atlantic, and local community organizations.

DISCOVERY FEST 2023 will take place Saturday, September 30!

Come on out to The Discovery Center - No RSVP necessary! All events are FREE!

We are at 3401 Reservoir Drive, across from Smith Playground.

Join Audubon Mid-Atlantic, Philadelphia Outward Bound School, and community partners in the celebration of the 5th Anniversary of The Discovery Center!

The day will be filled with activities: scavenger hunts, ziplining, community resource tables, Aerial Team Challenge Course, goats from the Philly Goat Project, measuring freshwater mussels and more!

Mussel Maniacs 10:00am-12:00pm

Audubon Mid-Atlantic’s monthly freshwater mussel measuring event!  Register here to measure mussels and the water chemistry of the reservoir. This community science data will be used to help guide our mussel propagation program: growing freshwater mussels and placing them within the Delaware River watershed for filtration and cleaner water for all. Registration is required in advance, please fill out the form below to sign up. Observation of the mussel measuring is open to all visitors!

Zipline & Challenge Course Elements

The zipline is first come, first served. It is open to participants ages 8+. Registration is onsite and starts at 10am. Time slots: 10:15am, 11:20am, 1:10pm, 2:10pm, 3:25pm. Limited spots available. Sneakers are REQUIRED.

The Aerial Team Challenge Course is for children (AGES 12+) & Adults. Sneakers are REQUIRED.

A parent/guardian must be onsite to sign a Risk & Liability waiver/photo release for zipline & Aerial Teams Challenge course participants under the age of 18+. Visitors interested in the zipline or Aerial Team Challenge Course should signup onsite by 3:00pm.

Bird Meet & Greet

The John James Audubon Center is bringing a bird for a meet & greet from 11am-12pm.

Philly Goat Project

The Philly Goat Project is leading a goat walk from 1:00pm-3:00pm

Bike Rides

Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia in partnership with Indego and the Better Bike Share Partnership (BBSP) is leading 2 bike rides through East Fairmount Park.

The first Discovery Fest took place in 2022, when hundreds of people came out to enjoy a thrilling day of family-friendly fun and exciting experiences, including canoeing, ziplining, and rock climbing, along with bird tours, community tables, food trucks, and a number of other fun activities.
